I put my laptop to sleep last night. This morning it would not wake up and this hasn't been a problem before. I had to hit the power button to turn it off and then on again, which I hate to do. Then I noticed the the mouse and cursor would skitter across and down the page at a rapid rate. I could not type anything.

Fortunately, in poking around I saw something about Installer. I opened Windows Update and here is what I read:
Most recent check for updates: 3/17 Updates were installed: 3/10 You have windows set to: never check for updates (not recommended) I clicked on View update history (by Updates were installed): and you see now what I saw: Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.55.103.0) Successful Important 3/20/2009 Which makes updates installed 3/10 rather a lie. If I hadn't clicked on that link I'd still be in the dark. I did System Restore and all is well. Tongiht I will shut my laptop off, although, who knows, maybe they can wake it up in the middle of the night. This was installed at 1 am, not the 3 am that is standard for their automatic updates. If they did and it shut off again, I'd never know. Did this happen to anyone else? How do I stop it? I agree they are important, if not all of them, and I do go in and check their swear word, swear word updates, but later. Sometimes it is indeed found that their update caused problems. The last update offered was something to do with designing logos I think, I followed the link to see what the heck it was. Did I misinterpret what I read and they didn't dastardly download? And it was purely coincidence that the system restore fixed things up?
